Easy Tattoo Stencils

Simple designs with only a few lines, plus three practice sheets that take you from straight lines to complete designs.

Practice route for beginners

Work through the sheets in order. Each one builds on the last.

  1. Level 1

Straight lines, parallel pairs 3 mm apart, diagonals and a zigzag.

Move on when your lines stay on the stencil without wobbling or stopping halfway.

  2. Level 2

Circles from 0.5 to 1.5 inches, waves, S-curves and a spiral.

Move on when your circles close where they started and curves stay smooth.

  3. Level 3

Six simple designs from this page, each printed twice.

When both copies of a design look the same, try one of the easy designs on its own.

How to use a practice sheet

  • Transfer the sheet onto practice skin the same way you would a real stencil.
  • Keep the same speed and depth along each line.
  • Stretch the skin with your free hand and turn the skin, not your wrist, on curves.

Questions

What should I practise on?

Synthetic practice skin is the closest to real skin. Fruit such as oranges or bananas is a cheap way to get used to holding the machine and following a line.

How long should I spend on each level?

There is no fixed time. Repeat a sheet until the result looks the same every time, then move to the next level.

Which easy design is best for a first tattoo?

Designs with one closed outline, such as the heart, star or leaf, are the simplest. The wave and sun have more lines.
